Gocek
Gocek has been famous for sailing and gulet cruising since the early
1970's. At that time many Turkish dignitaries began to take to the
the waters and explore its many offshore islands with their private
boats or as guests in gulet cruises. It was also prominent as a
picturesque stop on the 'blue cruises' in Turkey which began many
years before. Gocek was famous back then for its chromium deposits
and so chromium used to be mined here and transported by boats from
the old port area. You can still see an old relic of the mining chute
on the hillside to rear of Port Gocek marina.
Many celebrities enjoy Gocek's tranquility and experience a certain
anonymity whilst in it, as the locals remain quiet and unassuming
and much privacy can be had. It has become a yachters' paradise and
many regatta events are held here by Port Gocek marina, to name but
one marina here, with its A-1 mooring facilities. You never know whom
you might spot here in one of Gocek's lazy fish restaurants lining
the water front.
Apart from the special ambience of its natural bay with a pine-
forested mountain backdrop, Gocek offers many small boutiques and
craft shops to browse in and little cafes where you can just sit and
sip tea. The ideal relaxation get-away, the airport in Dalaman can
still be reached within 30 minutes on the main highway, making this
ideal for busy folks getting down from Istanbul or visitors flying
in from European cities.
We have talked to many persons over the last three years, individuals
who for some reason or another bought properties around Gocek three
to five years ago. During the years 2004 to 2005 here property
values soared and capital growth was as much as 50% in these
these two years, making it a very profitable investment and
those buyers felt very lucky. Others who hindered, are now looking
back in hindsight and wished they had bought a few years ago!
Properties here continue to grow in value and still remain a notch
above other resorts due to Gocek's exclusivity. A typical luxury 5-6
Bedroom villa with a pool in a secluded area can still command
rental incomes around 800 Pounds per week. |
