Fethiye
Fethiye is a very real Turkish working town with an element of tourism attractions so works very well for both holiday breaks and for permanent residences. Mixing old and new, its foundation goes back to 4 B.C. and was once the most important city on the Caryan border. It evolved as an established fishing port and now provides a marina, with berths for yachts and gulets (Turkish wooden ketches). Its population today is around 78,000 people. Fethiye lies 62 km drive south east of Dalaman airport.
Pretty palms are set along its central boulevard heading towards the old ancient ruined theatre of Telmessos. Dating from It offers an old town “Paspatir” of tiny lanes filled with souvenir shops, bars and restaurants. The main streets east towards the new bus terminal provide all furnishing and DIY outlets you will need to decorate your home. This district still maintains some of its “Asian’ character and is home of the industrial estate (sanayi) with everything from uPVC windows to car mechanical workshops and some old fashioned soup salons.
In the centre, parallel to its main boulevard runs a long promenade which sidles its attractive marina front, gardens and harbour, hosting cafes, tea gardens and restaurants. The backdrop mountains behind its upper, old town, with old Turkish styled houses, are the setting for its ancient Lycian ‘Amyntas’ rock tomb. The area has many splendid walks nearby including an old road leading to a Greek deserted village called Kayakoy, made famous in Louis Berniere’s novel ‘Birds Without Wings’. In the middle of town you can find a daily fish bazaar with restaurants that will cook the fresh fish and you can also buy fresh fruit and vegetables. The neighbouring outstretched resort of Calis provides a long beach for swimming, water sports activities (windsurfing school) and walking.
We can offer either new build apartments or two and a half flour villas; resale homes some around 1-2 years old, either near centre, near sea-front or up to 10 minutes bus ride out of town. New expanding areas for development include Ciftlik, Patlancik and Tasyaka suburbs.
