Rezovo
Published on: 21/05/2007The village of Rezovo is situated 15 km south of Ahtopol, just at the mouth of the Rezovo River that marks Bulgaria`s
natural boundary with Turkey.
The village is the furthest southern settlement along the Bulgarian Black coast and has rich ancient history.
It was named after the Thracian Tsar (King) Rezos that kingdom was fighting for the Troyans.
3 km north of Rezovo, on the Kastrich cape have been discovered a small Medieval fortress. It was called Kastrition
and its size was 20x30 m.
In the past, Rezovo was a sea port. It was a big village and as of then existed in the map.
The Caucasian pirates (lazi) fell upon the village and it was shifted inland.
In the beginning of the 20th century the village arose on its current location and a church named St. Constantine
and Elena was constructed.
In 1955, there were 90 houses in Rezovo, but the village gradually declined because of its location on the boarder zone.
In the last 10 years the village picks up again and is an ideal place for vacation.
25 people reside permanently in this village, but this number increases during the summer.
