Published on: 22/12/2006 In 1989 began complete reorientation of the society. The main purpose
was approaching western state models and
now it has been already completed. Bulgarian President is elected in
every five years. Parliament has 240 members.
A majority of 2/3 is needed for Constitution changes. There are several
independent trade-unions.
Since22/01/2002 President of Bulgaria is Georgy Parvanov, elected on
18/11/2001.
Since 16/08/2005 Prime Minister is Sergey Stanishev, leader of the
Coalition for Bulgaria.
It is a coalition government. Partners in it are the three biggest
parties in the present Parliament - Coalition for Bulgaria, National
movement of Simeon II and Movement for rights and freedoms.
