Taukliman

The Taukliman reserve (Birds' Bay in Turkish) still known as the Bird bay is situated 15 km east of Kavarna and 60 km
of Varna. It is famous for its magnificent small beaches, warm mineral water, and numerous rocky islands.
The holiday village of Roussalka (Mermaid) is located in this area.

The area has been inhabited since ancient time; it was a sanctuary for Thracians, Greeks, Romans and Slavs.

In the southwest part of Taukliman is located the Tuzlata salt lake. Its bed is covered with hydrogen sulfide,
which has good healing properties.
The area is a real bird paradise because in reed and rush birds find peace and food.
Taukliman is surrounded by a plateau, standing 70 m above sea level. There are small caves, which give sanctuary
to rare bird and reptile species, included in the Red Book of Bulgaria.
