Belogradchik Rocks

These are beautiful rocks situated at the foot of West Balkan range.
It’s 185 km of the capital Sofia, and 65 km of the city of Montana. It
covers a large area of about 80 square kilometers not far away from the
town of Belogradchik.

The overlapping rock shape changes in each one meter depending
on the intensity of the sun. The rocks are formed by impressive
sandstones and limestone accumulations of red, grey and yellow nuances.
Throughout 2 million years climatic conditions have moulded men and
animalshaped structures. Its names are creations of the locals`
fantasy.

The central group of shapes is located south of the town of
Belogradchik and the most interesting shapes are as follows: the school
girl, the beer, the dervish, the shepherd, camel, the red wall, the
Madonna, the monk, the rider, the mushroom, and the cuckoo.

The second sediments of rocks are located in the western part
of the town and they resemble the rocks in the alpine. The most famous
are: Borich, Zbegovete and Erkiupria.

4km east of Belogradchik is located the third group, including the rocks around the Lipenishka cave.

The fourth sediment includes the famous Borovo stone, declared a national heritage.

The whimsical fantastic forms are in unison with the varied flora and fauna and this makes the region unique and preferable.
