Besarbovo rock Monastery

The Monastery of Besarboov is situated in the Rusenski Lom river valley, not far away from the Besarbovo village.

According to the legend, Dimitrii Besarbovski, a monk in the monastery,
died and appeared in a dream to a blind girl. She showed the place were
his body had been stocked in the river. The locals took the body into
the village church and miracles had happened in it since then.
After the end of the first Russian /Turkish war, his relics were moved
in Romania. Today they are kept in the “St.St. Konstantin and Elena”
Cathedral in Bucharest, Romania.

The monastery is the only functional rock monastery in
Bulgaria. There are around three hundred rooms in the rocks that were
inhabited by hermits searching for tranquility by the time of
Hesychasm. 48 stairs lead to the church. Regular masses have been held
in the church up to the present day.

According to the belief, the water from the the monastery well has
healing properties. The monastery is meant exclusively for men, it is
really impressive and kept in excellent condition.
